Konstfacks outdoor café TODAY!

Konstfacks outdoor café TODAY!

Our experiment with using raw untreated swedish pine at the Konstfack outdoor cafe has sofar exceeded our expectations by far. After one and a half year in the outdoor climate the pine has recieved a silver surface and really shimmers in the sun. A couple of tags decorates the surface, a student has carved his initials. I’m looking forward to what another nordic winter and a new vintage of art students will do to the surface.

NEWS! You will be able to see the developed bench at this years furniture fair under the wings of a reknown furniture producer, more info later…

Thanks again to everyone who helped us with this project // Kristoffer

BACHELOR PROJECT REWARDED AND EXHIBITED IN NEW YORK!

BACHELOR PROJECT REWARDED AND EXHIBITED IN NEW YORK!BACHELOR PROJECT REWARDED AND EXHIBITED IN NEW YORK!

My bachelor work together with Marcus Abrahamsson is rewarded with “Best Student Work” in I.D Annual Design Review. We are very happy about this and thank the jury for selectecting our work with the Konstfack outdoor Café and the furniture concept FRAME.

Words from the Jury:
“It shows that with a very simple set of materials—and without changing them much—you can create this playful, optimistic situation.” –Judge Manuel Miranda

About the Award:
Since 1954, the Annual Design Review has recognized the best in product, furniture, graphic, and environment design, from the iconic to the obscure. Throughout the years, this annual showcase has chronicled the evolution of design, and highlighted its impact on our material and visual culture. Each year, the featured work is chosen by a jury of leading practitioners, who, along with I.D.’s editorial team, focus the abundance of submissions into a clear survey of the state of design. The resulting overview is published in the July/August issue of I.D. magazine — the Annual Design Review issue.

Exhibition in Krakow, Poland ”What is ethno design?”.

Invited by the Ethnographic Museum in Krakow, Poland, Kristoffer Fagerström presents the Elsa easy chair as a part of the exhibition ”What is ethno design?”

Extract from the press-kit:
Designers get inspirations from ethnography and local heritage in various ways. And ‘ethno-design’ can be interpreted in various ways. During the exhibition we are going to present how the traditional structure, material, decorational motifs or texture are re-worked and newly interpreted by contemporary designers. During the exhibitions will be presented projects by Polish and foreign designers, like: Sitag, Ikea, Iittala, Vox, Boogie Bags, Scandinavianliving, Contraforma, Yksi Ontwerp, 5.5 and others.

How can Konstfack communicate its inner soul in its external space?
The current concrete floor, which is part of the main entrance to Konstfack, has been converted from a windy no mans land to a well kept and pleasant outdoor café. Through clear choices of materials and generous design we have made it into a place for relaxation and spending time together in the sun. No pretentions, just a nice lunch in pleasant company.

We have created a framework that lets the space react to influences and allows it to change over time. In the future when the wood content of this framework is worn out it is up to the current students to decide the content. By this we hope that the space will develop into a collage of materials. We are leaving something behind us that not only represents us and Konstfack at present but can also represent Konstfack in the future.

We won the competition…

Together with Marcus Abrahamsson we are the winners of the furniture competition for the new Konstfack restaurant. As a bachelor project we will design the new exterior restaurant for Konstfack, along with a permanent furniture setting. Everything will be presented at the opening at Konstfack Spring Exihibiton 2009, the 12:th of may.

TMF stand at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2009

Experience this years new design approach at the TMF stand at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2009, “Minimalism of the future is to combine different functions”.

TMF stand at Stockholm Furniture Fair 2009

A growing need for many functions in one form demands new solutions in design. Our installation was a visualization of how one by joining and deconstructing traditional forms will create new structures and functions. In the movement of form we let the spectator find new dynamic and potential forms. With this installation wanted to share our joy and curiosity of the form for functions.

Konstfack students incourages social awarness.

With last years success at Konstfacks X-mas market in mind we decided to donate this years whole income to Stockholms stadsmissions efforts in finding shelter for the hundreds of homeless people in stockholm. Our aim was to start a trend within the design schools of sweden to increase their social awareness.

We would like to thank everyone at the X-mas market who donated!
